Club & Societies

Computer (ICT) Club

The Computer Club aims to promote the use of IT in pupils’ learning and recreation. Pupils are taught IT skills covering the 3 main areas: word processing, multimedia presentation and spreadsheet. Pupils are also inspired to be creative in the process of creating multimedia presentation and robotics. Through web-based activities, pupils learn the basic net etiquettes and awareness of web safety.

Culture Club

The Culture Club opens to all pupils from Primary 3 to Primary 6. The club aims to inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Mdm Maryanni cultures of the different races in Singapore. Pupils are taught and exposed to the different cultures through playing traditional games, learning the basics of the language and visiting related places of interest. In the process, we aim to promote racial harmony and train pupils to become our School Ambassadors.

Rainbows Club

With the programme outline planned out this year, the Rainbow Club aims to focus on providing specific skills and guidance to all the Rainbows pupils according to the different levels. Our programme includes outings, viewing and discussion of carefully selected VCDs & Celebrate Me Day. The outings are fun learning journeys with discussion pointers. CCA time and venue to be arranged by individual teacher.

Uniform Groups

Brownies

The strength of the Brownies is relatively big and we are known as the FCPS 1^st pack. Our members are from Primary 3 to Primary 6. During our meetings, the Brownies play fames, sing songs, learn craft and do test-work. A yearly activity is our Pack Holiday in June when the members learn to cook simple dishes. The Brownies also make gifts for teachers during Teachers’ Day. As part of our fund-raising efforts, we also sell cookies to our friends and families. We also contributed two items for the National Day and Teachers’ Day concerts.

Scouts

The Scouts is opened to Primary 3 to 6 boys. Scouting inculcates sound values and life-skills that will develop a person physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually. Our activities include drills, singing, games, hiking and first-aid, as well as working on proficiency badges.

Performing Arts

Brass Band

The Brass Band aims to develop every band member into confident and disciplined musician through leadership and teamwork. Our CCA also provides opportunity for the members to participate in the DAT (Developing Aesthetic Talent) Programme, ABRSM Theory and Practical Examinations and pupils with talent in music. In addition, our members participate in performances and fundraising efforts for other needy children actively. We made excellent achievements for SYF Central Judging by achieving GOLD Awards in 2000, 2002 and 2004 and SILVER Award in 2006. We are proud to announce that we achieved a GOLD Award again in 2008. In addition, we netted another GOLD at the 3^rd International Children Music Championship in Hong Kong.

Chinese Dance Club

The Chinese Dance Club welcomes Primary 1 to 6 pupils. We offer an enriching programme in understanding the Chinese Traditional, Chinese Tribal as well as Chinese Contemporary Dance. The club aims not only to develop our members aesthetically but also nurture other good qualities such as self-motivation, self-confidence and teamwork. The Chinese club is actively involved in various school and public performances both locally and overseas. We also participate in the SYF competition held biannually and have been achieving GOLD and SILVER awards. We achieved another SILVER award for the school in 2008.

Choir Club

The Choir Club provides opportunity for members to learn singing harmoniously in a group. The club has been doing well in the SYF (Singapore Youth Festival) Primary School Choir Competition. With the trainings done by our very own teachers, the choir team achieved the BRONZE Award in 2006 and 2008.

The Guitar Ensemble aims to provide guitar training in both theory and practical to members in preparation for the SYF, ABRSM Practical and theory examinations. In 2008, the CCA took a bold step to participate in the SYF Competition and achieved a BRONZE award.

Indian Dance Club

The Indian Dance Club aims to introduce basic steps in dancing such as basic exercises tattadavu and nattadavu together with music. The club first started to prepare dancers for SYF Competition since 1998 and over the years the club managed to get SILVER awards and one BRONZE. We added another SILVER award in 2008.

Malay Dance Club

The Malay Dance Club opens to Primary 3 to 6 pupils who are interested and have a passion for Malay Dance. It aims to create awareness and better understanding of the rich Malay culture through performances and develop the aesthetic sensibilities among pupils. The Malay Dance Club is extensively committed to be involved in and out of the school performances and inter-school competitions. The Malay Dance Club achieved BRONZE awards in 2003 and 2004 SYF Competitions and a SILVER award in 2008.

String Ensemble

String Ensemble was formed in April 2005 to create opportunities for pupils to attain musical skills. It is also a platform for pupils to develop leadership qualities through Music Appreciation. There were only 30 pupils then. To date, it has grown to a family of about 80 members. Although it was a relatively small enrolment then, all members put in their best effort and practiced hard. In 2006, they achieved the Silver Award for the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for String Ensemble. We are proud to announce that we achieve our first GOLD award at our second attempt in a SYF Competition 2008.

Visual Arts

Art Club

The Art Club aims to develop the artistic talents and creativity of its members. Membership opens to all Primary 3 to 6 pupils who like to create, draw and paint. Activities carried out include drawing and painting, tie-dye, batik painting, printmaking, clay modeling, glass painting, pebbles painting as well as the manufacturing of items for sale at the school Art Shoppe. Members who are talented in art will be given the opportunity to take part in the SYF Competition.

Chinese Brush Painting & Calligraphy

The main objective of the Chinese Brush Painting & Calligraphy Club is to foster a good understanding and appreciation of the Chinese language and culture among the pupils. Members will learn the essential Chinese calligraphy skills and proper Chinese brush handling techniques. There is a separate course on Chinese brush painting, and with the combination of Chinese Calligraphy, members will have a deeper appreciation of traditional Chinese arts. We made an excellent achievement of achieving a SILVER Award in 2007 with our first participation in the SYF Art and Craft Competition ‘Beauty of Spring & Summer’.

Sports & Games

Badminton Club

The badminton club aims to provide opportunities for its members to learn basic techniques and footwork in badminton as well as positioning, the scoring system and rules of the game. Activities for the training sessions include fitness and conditioning, basic foot drills and court movements, service skills and execution of different types of drives and shots in play. Discussions of court tactics in singles and doubles games are also conducted. We are proud that our Senior Boys is one of the TOP 6 schools in the North Zone Badminton Inter-school Competition in 2008.

Basketball Club

The Basketball Club is open to Primary 3 to 6 pupils, both boys and girls who have the interest and commitment in the game. This CCA aims to develop in its members, discipline, teamwork, leadership and physical and mental resilience. In this CCA, members learn and practise fundamental skills such as ball-handling, dribbling, passing and shooting. Defensive and attacking strategies are also taught and discussed with the players. Players who showed commitment and high competence level will be selected to represent the school in the Zonal tournament. Our Senior Boys was one of the TOP 8 schools in the North Zone Inter-school Basketball Competition in 2008.

The Soccer club was set up since the founding of the school. The objective of the club is to provide an avenue for the boys to keep fit and healthy. At the same time, they are also given opportunities to show their leadership mantle when they are designated as captains and vice-captains. Members will also have the opportunity to participate in the North Zone as well as the National Soccer Competitions.
